John Stachel is an American physicist and science historian, born on March 29, 1928. He earned his PhD in 1958 from Stevens Institute of Technology on a topic related to general relativity. He held teaching positions at Lehigh University and the University of Pittsburgh before joining Boston University in 1964, where he served as a professor of physics until his retirement. Stachel is known for his work on the history of relativity theory and Albert Einstein, and he co-edits the Collected Works of Einstein as well as leading the Boston University Center for Einstein Studies.
