John Lewis Starling was an American bluegrass musician and composer, noted for his induction into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame. He was a founding member of the bluegrass group The Seldom Scene. In addition to his music career, he worked as an otolaryngological physician, serving various communities in Alabama, Washington, D.C., and Virginia. He also had a passion for architecture, having designed several buildings, including the field house at Virginia Military Institute and a home for his parents.
