John M. Steane (May 1931 – April 12, 2024) was a British headmaster and archaeologist who played significant roles in education and historical research. Educated at Dulwich College and Magdalen College, Oxford, he served as Headmaster of Kettering Grammar School from 1964 to 1976, and later as County Archaeologist for Oxfordshire until 1990. He researched historic landscapes and authored several books, including 'The Northamptonshire Landscape' and 'The Archaeology of Power'. Steane was also a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and involved in art as a watercolor and drawing exhibitor.
