John Stewart Turner OBE FAA was a prominent Australian botanist and plant physiologist known for his influential role in education and science. As Professor of Botany and Plant Physiology at the University of Melbourne from 1938 to 1973, he made significant contributions to curriculum development, notably introducing Biology as a senior subject in Victoria. He was the first President of the Science Teachers' Association of Victoria and chaired several committees aimed at enhancing science education. Elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science in 1956, he was also recognized with an Officer of the Order of the British Empire honor in 1974.
