John Thomas Straffen was a British serial killer, infamous for being the longest-serving prisoner in British history. He murdered two young girls in 1951 and was deemed unfit to stand trial, which led to his commitment to Broadmoor Hospital. In 1952, after escaping briefly, he killed another child and was sentenced to death. However, his sentence was commuted to life imprisonment due to his mental state. He spent over 55 years in prison before his death in 2007.
