John T. Biggers was an African American muralist who gained prominence during the Harlem Renaissance and leading up to World War II. His works focused on critiquing economic and racial injustices. Biggers also served as the head of the art department and founder of Texas Southern University, which plays a significant role in education for African American students. Born on April 13, 1924, he left a lasting legacy in the art community before passing away on January 25, 2001.
