John Thomas Eversole was a United States Navy officer born on April 17, 1915, who graduated from the Naval Academy in 1938. After serving at sea and receiving aviation training, he joined Torpedo Squadron 6 in USS Enterprise. Eversole participated in the Battle of Midway on June 4, 1942, where he lost his life during the attack on Japanese carriers. His bravery was posthumously honored with the Navy Cross. Prior to this, in February 1942, he successfully ditched his bomber and was rescued the next day.
