John Twomey is an Irish sailor and former discus thrower born on July 7, 1955, in Cork. An avid cyclist in his youth, a 1970 bicycle accident left him with a T3 injury, leading to his transition to wheelchair sports. He competed in the Paralympic Games starting in 1976, winning medals in discus throw and later switching to sailing after it became a Paralympic sport in 1996. He participated in multiple Paralympics events, including being a skipper in 2012 London Games.
