John Uzzell Edwards was a Welsh expressionist painter born on October 10, 1934, in Deri, Wales. He developed his passion for painting after moving to Paris in 1957. He returned to Wales and won the Prix de Rome in 1968, allowing him to study at the British School at Rome. His works often explored Welsh themes and industrial landscapes. In 1988, he received a traveling scholarship from the Arts Council of Wales to study Celtic art in Europe. Edwards, who avoided art schools, died in 2014 at the age of 79. His son is graffiti artist Charles Uzzell Edwards.
