John M. Wessels (1938-1994) was an American college basketball player known for his tenure with the Illinois Fighting Illini during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Playing as a center, he averaged 13.4 points and 8.7 rebounds per game over three varsity seasons, earning a varsity letter each year. Prior to college, he graduated from Rockford West High School where he led his team, the Warriors, to IHSA state championships in both 1955 and 1956.
