Johnny Meeks was an American guitarist born on April 16, 1937, in Gaffney, South Carolina. He began his career in country music but gained fame as a member of Gene Vincent's backing band, The Blue Caps, replacing Cliff Gallup in late 1956. Meeks contributed to Vincent's hit 'Lotta Lovin'' and co-wrote 'Say Mama.' After The Blue Caps disbanded in 1958, he formed the Tune Toppers and later played on Vincent's comeback album in 1969. He also worked as a session musician for renowned artists like Merle Haggard.
