Jōjirō Okami (October 31, 1918 - December 11, 2003) was a Japanese detective and science fiction novelist, known for being the original author of Toho's special effects films including 'Earth Defense Force'. He served as a test pilot with the Japan Air Self-Defense Force and private aviation companies. Born in Osaka Prefecture, his real name was Masatake Kanehiro. His pen name was inspired by actor Jōji Ōka and writer Jūzō Unno. He also contested that some records incorrectly listed his name pronunciation as 'Takejirō'.
