Jon Elia (December 14, 1931 – November 9, 2002) was a notable Urdu poet from British India who is recognized for his unconventional and rebellious thinking. Besides being a poet, Elia was also a thinker, biographer, translator, and scholar. He was born in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, and was the brother of Syed Muhammad Taqi, both of whom were journalists. His wife, Zahida Hina, is a prominent writer and journalist. Elia passed away in Karachi at the age of 70.
