Jon Grude Gjedebo is a Norwegian inventor and businessman, born on March 27, 1945, in Jørpeland. He is best known for developing remote control of drilling operations. In 1999, he sold his company Hitec to National Oilwell, laying the foundation for a billion fortune. Gjedebo faced learning difficulties in his youth and attended special school. He was later honored as Norway's Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2007 and received an honorary award from the Norwegian Academy of Technological Sciences in 2012.
