Jon Stephenson von Tetzchner is a Norwegian programmer of Icelandic descent, known for co-founding Opera Software. He was part of a research group in a Norwegian telecom company (now Telenor), where he and his colleague developed a web browser called MultiTorg Opera. After Telenor abandoned the project, they secured the rights in 1995 and founded their own company to continue its development. Opera became popular, growing to over 500 employees. In a publicity stunt, von Tetzchner promised to swim across the Atlantic if Opera downloads hit a million, which they did.
