Wetlesen earned his doctoral degree in 1976 with his dissertation titled 'The Sage and the Way: Spinoza's Ethics of Freedom.' He has authored several books, including 'Selverkjennelse og frigjøring – et buddhistisk perspektiv' and 'Biocentric moral status: the moral status of beings who are not persons.' He has also translated works of Meister Eckhart.
