Jonathan Isaac Kaplan is a former international rugby referee from Durban, South Africa. He holds the world record for officiating the most international rugby matches. Kaplan began refereeing in 1984 while still a high school student and made his first-class debut in 1991. He joined South Africa's national refereeing panel in 1993 and made his international debut in May 1996. He officiated his fifth final in South Africa's premier tournament, the Currie Cup, in October 2009. Kaplan announced his retirement from rugby refereeing on February 12, 2013, effective at the end of the 2013 season.
