Joost Dourlein was a Dutch marine and a knight in the Military William Order, born on April 8, 1911, in Vrouwenpolder. He joined the marines in 1928 and rose to the rank of captain during World War II, where he took part in over 100 actions in the former Dutch East Indies. He earned the Military William Order for his bravery in these campaigns. Later, he led Marines in Aruba and a barracks was named in his honor. His brother Pieter Dourlein was also a recipient of the MWO.
