Josephus Leonardus Anthonius (Joost) van Aalst, born on September 23, 1942, in Venlo, is a retired naval officer of the Royal Netherlands Navy. He commenced his career in 1960 at the Royal Naval Institute in Den Helder. Following his commissioning as an officer, he held various positions within the Naval Staff and on several frigates. In 1995, he was appointed Inspector-General of the Armed Forces and promoted to Vice Admiral. After retiring in 1999, he continued to serve in various administrative roles related to the military and maritime sectors.
