She gained fame as the winner of the sixth season of American Idol, which was announced on May 24, 2007. At the age of 17, she became the youngest winner in the history of the show. Sparks is also notable for being the only winner from the Southwest region, distinguishing her from the traditional winners from the Southern United States.
