Jörg Luy is a German philosopher and veterinary specialist in animal welfare, born on August 12, 1966, in Cologne. He earned his Master's degree in philosophy and focused his dissertation on euthanasia in animal welfare ethics. He held a junior professorship in animal welfare and ethics at the Freie Universität Berlin from 2004 to 2010. Before founding his research and consulting institute for applied ethics (INSTET) in 2013, he directed the Institute for Animal Welfare and Animal Behavior at the same university.
