He began his military career in 1978, underwent officer training, and later studied organizational and economic sciences. Vollmer has held various command and staff positions throughout his service, including leading brigade operations in military missions and roles with NATO forces, before becoming the Deputy Inspector General of the Army and then the Chief of Staff in July 2015.
