Jorge Almeida Guimarães is a Brazilian veterinarian, biochemist, researcher, and university professor born on January 28, 1938, in Campos dos Goytacazes. He is a distinguished member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and has been honored as a Grand Officer of the National Order of Scientific Merit. Guimarães has served as a professor emeritus at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and also taught at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). He held significant roles including director of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development and secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology until February 2003.
