He has been the regional governor of Loreto since January 1, 2023, previously serving as mayor of Datem del Marañón from January 2015 to December 2018. Chávez studied medicine in Cuba and began his political career as a mayor in 2014, later running for the government of Loreto in 2018. He succeeded in the regional elections of 2022, representing the party Somos Perú for the term 2023-2026.
