He was killed when struck by a drunk driver in the Santa María Guadalupe Las Torres neighborhood of Cuautitlán Izcalli, State of Mexico. The driver attempted to flee the scene but was captured by local authorities, who released him shortly after. Following relentless efforts by Claudio's family, the perpetrator was re-arrested on December 31, 2022.
