Jorge Osvaldo Casanovas was an Argentine lawyer, jurist, and politician born on April 21, 1947, in Buenos Aires. He served as the first president of the Federal Criminal Cassation Chamber and held a position there until 1999. In that year, he was appointed Minister of Justice by Carlos Ruckauf, also taking on responsibilities for security in 2000. He was elected as the first deputy of the nation by Eduardo Duhalde in October 2001, and he was instrumental in the 1992 reform of Argentina's Criminal Procedure Code, introducing oral trial and appeals.
