José Ángel Balanza Tobías, known as Gorostiza, is a former professional Basque pelota player born on February 26, 1970, in Huércanos, La Rioja. He was inspired by his idol, Iñaki Gorostiza, which led to his nickname. Gorostiza made his professional debut in 1992 and retired in 2001, during which he was contemporaneous with fellow player Titín III. Notably, he won a gold medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and became the world champion at the age of 22. He currently serves as a coach and works in logistics.
