José Arias Ordoñez was a Colombian librarian, bibliographer, and university professor, born on January 8, 1940, in Pamplona, Santander, Colombia. He was a specialist in Information Science and one of the pioneers of Latin American librarianship. Graduating from the Inter-American School of Librarianship in 1964, he began teaching in 1967 and held various academic posts, including at the Pontifical Javeriana University. He contributed to projects with UNESCO, coordinated documentation centers, and held leadership positions in several professional associations until his passing on June 11, 2020, in Bogotá.
