He made his mark in the 1980s and 1990s, notably winning the Chicago Marathon in 1992 with a time of 2:16:14, making him the second Brazilian to achieve this feat. In addition to his Chicago success, he had a 12th place finish at the marathon in 1993 and placed 81st in the 1991 World Marathon Cup.
