José de Jesus Peixoto Camargo, commonly known as J.J. Camargo, is a prominent Brazilian thoracic surgeon, writer, and lecturer born on August 6, 1946. He graduated from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in 1970 and specialized in thoracic surgery at the Mayo Clinic. Notably, he performed Brazil and Latin America's first lung transplantation in 1989, along with the first double lung transplant in Brazil. His team has the highest record of lung transplants in the country, performing 60% of all lung transplants in Brazil in 2015.
