José Durand Flórez was a Peruvian writer, folklorist, and historian born in Lima on December 22, 1925. He was known for his research on Creole and Afro-Peruvian music and was a specialist in the works of Inca Garcilaso de la Vega. Durand was part of the literary movement known as the Generación del 50, which aimed to reflect the social realities of Peru in their works. He passed away on July 1, 1990, leaving behind a legacy in the field of Peruvian cultural studies.
