José Eduardo Alvarez Ramírez was a Salvadoran military bishop who served as the first military bishop of the Armed Forces of El Salvador from November 4, 1968, to March 7, 1987. Born on March 22, 1922, in Berlin, Usulután, El Salvador, he was the son of Maria Rarmirez de Alvarez and Jose Eduardo Alvarez. He was survived by his sisters, Aida Alvarez Bates and Amanda Alvarez Alvarayeros. Alvarez was a key figure in the military church during a turbulent period in Salvadoran history.
