José Ignacio Pardo de Santayana is a Spanish engineer and ornithologist born on February 5, 1945, in Torrelavega, Cantabria. He graduated in civil engineering in Madrid in 1976 and served as a professor at the Escuela de Caminos in Santander until 1982. Passionate about zoology and nature conservation, he acquired the Zoo de Santillana del Mar in 1977, where he has been the director. He founded the Fundación Zoo de Santillana in 2007 and has created documentaries, hosted a radio program, and published several books and articles.
