José Javier Múgica Astibia was a Spanish politician and councilor for UPN in Leiza, Navarra, who was assassinated by ETA on July 14, 2001, at the age of 59. Born on April 7, 1942, in Leiza, he managed a small business and was passionate about photography. Múgica served as the spokesperson for the regionalist group after being elected in the 1999 regional elections. He faced numerous threats prior to his death, including an arson attack on his van. His son, Daniel Múgica, also became a councilor.
