In 2006, he was implicated in the Operación Puerto doping scandal but did not face legal repercussions as doping was not a criminal offense in Spain at the time. On January 23, 2013, he was arrested for purchasing and distributing anabolic steroids to athletes and gyms in the Murcia and Alicante provinces.
