José María Álvarez de Eulate Peñaranda is a Spanish economist and politician born on February 28, 1933, in Hontoria del Pinar, Burgos. He holds a doctorate in Economic and Business Sciences and has taught Economic Policy and the History of Economic Thought at various universities. A member of Alianza Popular, he served as a senator for Burgos in the 1982 general elections and as a deputy in the European Parliament in 1987. He has published works on economic history, notably the French War (1808-1814).
