José María Guelbenzu is a Spanish writer and journalist born on April 14, 1944, in Madrid. He studied Law and Business Management before leaving to pursue a literary career in 1964. His early work included film reviews and poetry for various magazines. His first published book was a poetry collection, but he is primarily known for his novels. In 1967, he became a finalist for the Biblioteca Breve Prize with his debut novel, El Mercurio. He worked for esteemed publications, became an editorial director, and focused exclusively on literature in 1988, publishing a detective novel in 2001.
