Jose Maria Sison (February 8, 1939 - December 16, 2022) was a Filipino writer and activist who reorganized and reestablished the Communist Party of the Philippines, incorporating Maoist ideas into the party's philosophy and ideology. The party has a military wing engaged in a guerrilla war against the Philippine government, which receives support from the United States. This conflict involves the New People's Army, part of the revolutionary front led by the National Democratic Front. In August 2002, Sison was labeled a 'terror supporter' by the U.S., but this designation was later overturned by the EU's second-highest court.
