José Mercader Valiente, nicknamed Porro, was a Spanish football forward born in Albacete on May 23, 1924. He began his career in the early 1940s with local teams and joined Albacete in 1942. At just 20, he became the first Albacete player to sign with Real Madrid, playing in a match against FC Barcelona in the 1944/45 season. Despite his potential, he returned to Albacete, where he became a local legend and was instrumental in the club's promotion to the Segunda División in 1948/49. He was part of a footballing family, with two brothers also in the sport.
