José Sarney de Araújo Costa, born José Ribamar Ferreira de Araújo Costa on April 24, 1930, is a Brazilian politician, lawyer, and writer. He served as the 31st President of Brazil from April 21, 1985, to March 15, 1990. At 90 years old, he is the oldest living former president of Brazil. Following the death of João Figueiredo in 1999, he became one of only two living former presidents not elected by direct vote, the other being Michel Temer.
