Born in Bilbao, he had a close relationship with Cuba, spending long months there. He held degrees in Human and Political Sciences and Information Sciences. Macías was active in various media, expressing critical views on the Cuban Revolution while remaining supportive of the current regime. He directed Egin Radio, collaborated with alternative media, and was an accomplished filmmaker with several awards. He authored books including one on Palestine.
