Josef Durstewitz was a German administrative lawyer and state secretary in the Hessian Ministry of Finance. He earned his doctorate in law in 1954 with a thesis on the presumption of innocence. In 1963, he became the head of the Hessian State Finance School in Rotenburg an der Fulda. A member of the SPD, he unsuccessfully ran for parliament in 1965 and later served as state secretary in the finance ministry starting in 1969. A street in Rotenburg is named after him.
