Josef Ferdinand Menke (April 21, 1913 – May 16, 1995) was a German engineer and physicist specializing in infrared technology. In the 1960s, he founded the Menke Observatory and Menke Planetarium in Glücksburg, the northernmost observatory in Germany. He contributed extensively to astronomical research and developed 32 patents through his company. His work during the Apollo 11 moon landing involved significant measurements in visible light and infrared. Menke also played a role in establishing Ireland's first planetarium in 1989.
