Josef Schmidt is a former Austrian politician and party employee, born on February 3, 1939, in Rettenbach. He served as a member of the Burgenland state government from 1983 to 1993. Schmidt initially worked as a commercial employee in Vienna before becoming the personnel manager at Saniped. He was politically active as the district party secretary for the SPÖ-Oberwart starting in 1977. He was sworn in as a state councilor on July 11, 1983, and resigned from his mandate on March 18, 1993.
