Josef Stavěl (1901-1986) was a Czech psychologist and educator regarded as a founding figure of psychology in Czechoslovakia. He earned his doctorate in 1924 and contributed significantly to the field through his work on motivation and psychodiagnostics. Stavěl established psychological testing protocols and emphasized a multidimensional approach to personality assessment. He also founded the Psychotechnical Institute in Bratislava in 1928 and published influential works, including studies on instinctive behavior and career counseling. Besides psychology, he had a deep passion for music and was an active violinist.
