Josef Toufar (July 14, 1902 – February 25, 1950) was a Czech Roman Catholic priest known for an event in Cíhošť, where a wooden crucifix moved mysteriously during his sermon on December 11, 1949. This phenomenon drew attention and was labeled the 'Cíhošť Miracle.' The Communist Party of Czechoslovakia sought to exploit the incident against the Catholic Church, leading to Toufar's abduction, torture, and eventual death in custody. He is currently undergoing beatification by the Roman Catholic Church, with his remains returned to Cíhošť in 2015.
