Josep Maria Codina i Vidal was a prominent Catalan physicist and professor born in Sallent on March 2, 1927. He graduated in physics from the University of Barcelona in 1950 and completed his doctoral thesis on quantitative spectrography. He contributed to the establishment of the Spectroscopy and Electron Microscopy Services at the University of Barcelona, where he served as director until 1967. He held a chair in Electricity and Magnetism at the university and became a professor emeritus after his retirement in 1992. He was the director of the Fabra Observatory from 1971 and received numerous awards throughout his career.
