After receiving his doctorate in Catalan Philology, he became an emeritus professor in contemporary Catalan literature at the University of Barcelona. Murgades has authored numerous works and translations, notably including the complete narratives of Franz Kafka and several texts by Goethe and Hermann Hesse. He has directed the literary magazine Els Marges and is recognized for his sociolinguistic research.
