Josep Porter i Rovira was a self-taught Catalan entrepreneur, bookseller, bibliographer, bibliophile, and writer born in Montblanc on January 21, 1901. He founded the Porter Bookstore in Sants, Barcelona, in 1925 and published significant bibliographical works. He established the Hispanic Bibliography Institute in 1930 and launched the journal Papyrus in 1936. His bookstore gained fame internationally but closed its doors in 1981. Porter was also a founding member of the Barcelona Bibliophiles Association and published numerous works on the Catalan origins of Christopher Columbus before his death on June 30, 1999.
