Josep Vila i Sans (1918-2002) was a Catalan stonecutter and politician, serving as the first democratically elected mayor of Tagamanent from 1979 to 1987. Born into a farming family, he began working as an apprentice stonecutter at a young age. He fought on the Republican side during the Spanish Civil War and was later imprisoned in a concentration camp. After the war, he established a successful stone business, contributing to several construction projects. Vila was a staunch defender of Catalan freedoms and is remembered for his dedication to the local community.
